What Is Yoga in the Community?
Yoga in the Community is a not-for-profit organization that aims to support the mental, physical and emotional wellbeing of at-risk groups within Australia using the techniques of yoga and meditation.
Yoga in the Community was founded by yoga teachers Sue White and Katie Spiers who saw a growing need to make yoga accessible and affordable to all whilst maintaining the integrity of authentic teachings.
The Yoga in the Community program will work in conjunction with other modalities (for example counselling and rehabilitation) – working to support activities within existing systems rather than outside of them.
Announcing: A Win-Win Situation - Help Support YITC & Get Two Great New Yoga CDs!
We have produced two excellent yoga CDs to help raise funds for Yoga in the Community - a mixed-level flowing yoga class, and a guided relaxation ($20 each).
Although this is a mixed level
practice, it is not suitable for brand-new beginners and
should be practiced under the guidance of a qualified
teacher.
Yoga teaches us there is so
much more to who we are than just the physical body. Deep
relaxation allows us to consciously bring into focus the
intention of getting to know who we really are. In deep
relaxation we become aware of the unconscious mind, which
is important in the process of letting go of negative
emotions, physical tension, stress and anxiety. The
practices of yogic relaxation help us to let go of all that
is holding us back from sustained and profound happiness.
